What to consider before purchasing
Where to place the ice bath
The ice bath can be placed on any solid ground floor. The floor should be tiled or have a vinyl floor covering i.e. should be suitable as a wet area. The ice bath can also be placed on the first floor providing it can bear the load of an ice bath plus bathers plus water.
Our Ice baths can also be placed outside providing the chiller is designed for outdoor use or is protected from adverse weather conditions. Please see individual chiller specifications. Adequate space should be left to access the ice bath.
Steps should be taken to avoid the bath freezing in the winter.
Where to place the chiller
Ideally, the chiller needs to be placed near to the to the ice bath, preferably no more than 5 metres away. Speak to us if you have any questions in this respect. The chillers will needs ventilation space of around 50cm to the front and side which aids helps air circulation and helps to ensure optimum performance.
Access to the site
Gravel pathways or grass can make it diffcult to wheel the units on a pallet truck or dolly and may require the ice bath to be carried across these areas. Our Ice Baths typically fit through a standard doorway but older buildings may have narrower doors and tight corners or corridors. Contact us for advice if you are unsure.
Health & Safety
The unit needs to be maintained on a daily/weekly basis with the filters being cleaned every 2/3 days (depending on usage). The filters should last 9 months before they need changing.
The selection of UV or Ozone sanitisation will reduce the requirement for chemicals. If chlorine is used we recommend 1ppm as per the test strip. Â Empty the bath before the water deteriorates, ideally every 2 to 4 weeks depending on usage and user hygiene.
Be aware of contraindications before using ice baths. Seek medical advice if you have any doubt or suffer from cardiac conditions for example.
Ambient temperature
Ideally, the room temperature that the chiller operates in should be no higher than 30°C. The warmer it is the less efficient the chiller and therefore more energy will be required to maintain the water temperature.
Aeration
Please ensure that the chiller has 50cm of airflow to the front and side grill. Chiller efficiency will be reduced if it operates in a dirty or dusty environment.
Water and drain
The ice bath does not require a permanent water supply; simply fill with a flexible hose.
The ice bath can be emptied via gravity to floor level a drain in the proximity of the bath. If you don’t have a floor level drain you may have to use a submersible pump to empty the spa. We can advise you on this if you are unsure.
Power
The CryoHome Ice Baths have no power requirement. The chillers will plug into a standard RCD protected socket.
